April 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Bellevue, Wash.– Pharmacy OneSource, Inc., software as a service provider to more than 1,300 hospitals in the United States, announced a new campaign calling on its hospital pharmacy clients to document more than $1 billion in pharmacist interventions in 2010.

The leading pharmacist intervention teams for 2010 with the highest number of clinical interventions and dollars saved per hospital bed will receive a traveling trophy and unrestricted education grant from Pharmacy OneSource at the end of the year.

"The $1 Billion Intervention Challenge can help hospitals mobilize their pharmacy staffs, focus improvement efforts, and demonstrate their commitment to delivering swift, safe and cost-effective care," said Steve Riddle, VP of Clinical Affairs for Pharmacy OneSource.

Pharmacy OneSource is proud to partner with ASHP in support of the organizations new Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI). For every $100 million of documented savings due to clinical pharmacy interventions across all hospital clients, Pharmacy OneSource will donate to the PPMI at structured milestones up to $50,000. The goal of this PPMI is to significantly advance the health and well being of patients by developing and disseminating a futuristic practice model that supports the most effective use of pharmacists as direct patient care providers.

"As partners in the conceptualization and offering of the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative, ASHP and the ASHP Foundation are excited to acknowledge the sponsorship of Pharmacy OneSource for the Initiative," said Stephen J. Allen, ASHP Foundation executive vice president.

"The $1 Billion Intervention Challenge is a novel and direct way for Pharmacy OneSource to showcase the value of pharmacists' direct patient care role in medication management.  Enhancing and expanding pharmacists' leadership in the provision of clinical pharmacy services and ensuring safety, quality and standards-based medication use are key objectives of the Initiative and the $1 Billion Intervention Challenge," Allen said.

Quantifi, Pharmacy OneSource’s clinical communication and documentation tool, is used by over 46,942 healthcare professionals who documented $529 million in savings by pharmacists through interventions in 2009. Quantifi captures both the actual dollar savings via reduction in supply costs and potential costs savings through risk avoidance.

"Quantifi is a great tool for a clinical program enabling the pharmacy to document the true clinical value we provide to patients and the healthcare team," said Ron Krych, a current Quantifi customer and Director of Pharmacy at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.
