FOR RELEASE: April 26. 2010:  Cancer Survivor Undertakes Epic Journey

We are contacting you in hopes of sparking an interest in providing coverage for a cross-Canadian road trip to raise: awareness, spirits, and funding to battle Leukemia. In 2007, an estimated 4,200 Canadians were diagnosed with leukemia; 7,680 with lymphoma and 2,000 with myeloma. The proceeds will be donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Unit at the University College Hospital in London or any other Leukemia & Lymphoma organization donors may designate.

The inspiration for the Journey Of Hope stems from the personal fight with leukemia that Colin Ray Craythorne, battles. Colin was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006 and has been in remission for 4 years. His mission is to personally encourage those fighting the same battle by sharing his fears, his accomplishments, and his voice to increase awareness and support and prove that a diagnosis does not mean an end to epic undertakings. In explaining the origin of the Journey Of Hope Craythorne said,

“When I was at the lowest and felt the least hope a nurse on my care team suggested that I have 3 aims to keep me focused on the future. One of the aims was to make this journey in my 2CV. I want everyone to know, patients in particular, that there must be hope.”

Colin will be departing Halifax on May 23rd and traveling 3,850 miles in his Citroen 2CV arriving in Vancouver on June 14th. Friends and supporters are traveling from as far away as Australia to express support by co-driving segments with him. Along his journey, he is seeking opportunities to deliver the message of hope via media as well as individual and association meetings.  This is where we hope you can assist with a leg of our trip. We are hoping that Colin’s story inspires you to follow his journey across Canada and to encourage others to follow as well. In fact, we offer you the opportunity to “ride along” with Colin in his Citroen 2CV a stretch of the way. If you are interested in providing coverage or learning more about this journey, please visit www.JourneyOfHope.UK.com. Our mission to defeat leukemia began with Colin, but with your help and our sponsor’s support, we will overcome the tragedy with knowledge and hope and funding for support and research.
