April 27, 2010 - PRLog -- For much of this century, antique, heirloom or “old” roses have been largely overlooked. However, there is now a renaissance afoot to restore these rose survivors, once admired by our grandparents, back into our modern gardens.

The reasons behind the current revival are numerous:  Historic interest, color, fragrance, and form are but a few.  In addition, most old roses boast all these virtues without becoming a maintenance burden. Long-lived, they have flourished without care, fertilization, spraying or pruning in abandoned homesteads, old fence rows and cemeteries.

The Antique Rose Emporium evolved from the appreciation and avid collection of these old garden roses.  This twenty five year old business sells roses through its mail order business as well as through two retail display garden centers and within the trade via wholesale.

The mail order company ships two gallon, own root roses throughout the continental United States from early September through May.  Selections can be made from their free catalog or on their online website, www.weAREroses.com.

The Independence, Texas display gardens are on the eight acre site of an early settler’s homestead.  Several restored historical buildings are planted in a variety of appropriate themed gardens making it one of the county most popular tourism destinations.  This display garden also serves as a center for seminars and lectures including the Fall Festival of Roses, which takes place the first weekend in November each year.   It also serves, along with the outdoor gazebo and adjacent gardens, as a popular garden wedding venue.

The San Antonio, Texas twenty acre display gardens features southwest and Hispanic themed gardens.  A mix of historic roses, native plants and colorful xeric plants are showcased in this adobe walled garden.
