Blood on Their Hands
Greg Pitts exploded on the art scene 2 years ago with his first series of abstract creations that garnered him the moniker ‘The Black Jackson Pollock.’ Many of these were painted on organic hand-made acid free paper made by women and children in the Philippines who are victims of human trafficking.
Similar to the lives of the creators of the special paper he uses, Greg’s life has seen its share of turmoil and pain. Born to a single parent family and subject to narrow-minded stereotypes, he struggled most of his early life to express himself artistically and was frequently discouraged, being told, “that kind of stuff is for sissies.” One particular piece featured at April’s exhibit is entitled “Inner Turmoil” which draws on the despair and internalization of unfulfilled desires that Mr Pitts experienced during the first 30 years of his life.
Having ‘cut his teeth’ artistically over the past 20 years through the medium of photography, Greg Pitts created artwork that has gotten the attention of several admirers across the country and internationally, including actress Sherri Shepherd and recording artist Marcomé.
Greg Pitts will feature other creations in May, including a controversial political satire work entitled “Obamanation”
When asked to describe what he was thinking or feeling when he
painted them, he replied “I had been watching CNN and realized
that I had become a victim of ‘information overload.’ It had to come out somehow and it came out on canvas and wood.”
