April 24, 2010 - PRLog -- NRL chief executive David Gallop has defended their decision to exclude Melbourne from this year’s premiership race saying it was unfair the club was employing better players than other teams could and that they would have continued rorting the salary cap for the rest of the 2010 season unless their strict measures had been brought in.

Critics argued the NRL were too extreme in stripping the club of all points accrued to date, and not allowing them to earn any more points for the remainder of the year either.

There are major concerns about fans reactions now that their team have nothing left to play for but their pride.

In addition 2 major sponsors of the Storm have pulled their endorsements.

Gallop said it would be difficult for the club to get back on track as they now face the reality of getting the team below the cap. The big questions are how will it affect their players, who will they let go, and indeed where would they be able to go to after earning higher salaries, and who would take paycuts?

The Storm have been given until March next year to get under the cap.
