April 24, 2010 - PRLog -- La Jolla, CA----Carol Hollan, MD, announced that she has joined the plastic surgery practice of Wendell Smoot, MD, John Smoot, MD and Reza Sadrian, MD, as a member of their medical team.  Dr. Hollan is San Diego’s first female board-certified plastic surgeon and has been in practice since 1983.  Prior to becoming a plastic surgeon, Dr. Hollan attended Florida Presbyterian College, University of Florida and the College of Medicine - University of Florida, graduating from medical school in 1973.  She trained in internal medicine and joined a family practice in Potsdam, New York, where she became board-certified in Family Practice. Dr. Hollan moved to California in 1977 to complete an internship in general surgery, a residency in orthopedic surgery, and a final residency in plastic surgery at UCSD' s School of Medicine in 1983. The American Board of Plastic Surgery certified her in 1985.

According to Dr. Hollan, “I have known Drs Wendell and John Smoot and Dr. Reza Sadrian for many years.  What interests me most about becoming a member of this practice is that we all have a similar philosophy when it comes to doing what’s right for the patient but we all have our own unique approach.  It’s nice to work in a team environment where there’s synergy and positive energy about helping patients and also helping the community.”  Each physician donates a portion of the proceeds from every procedure performed to a charitable fund, which is then donated back to the community.  All four physicians also contribute their time and talent to a variety of charitable organizations.

Through InterFace, Dr. Hollan has been a regular team member of medical expeditions that travel into remote towns in Mexico to provide underprivileged children with free treatment for congenital and traumatic childhood facial and extremity deformities.  Dr. Hollan also serves as a mentor in training medical students and for many years has contributed as a voluntary assistant professor in plastic surgery at UCSD.  Additionally, she and her husband are co-founders of Challenged America™, a non-profit organization that provides adaptive sailing for adults and children with disabilities and which hosts an annual two-day fundraising Regatta in San Diego.

The surgical center for the practice has three fully accredited surgical suites, a recovery unit and a qualified nursing and support staff of 17 members as well as a Laser and Skin Care Clinic, utilizing the state-of the-art Sciton XC laser among others.  The facility is located in the Ximed building on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, with a private back entrance for complete privacy and exclusivity.  Visit www.smootmd.com or call (858) 587-9850.  Dr. Hollan’s website is www.carolhollanmd.com.
