We, BS-BS Foundation, started today with a village called "DhoorCot" in Punjab. 85% of people in that village are in business of agriculture and use tractors and trolleys and bullock carts for their business use. And they travel on cycles inside the village.
We reached in village at 1330 hrs on 23rd April 2010 and the temperature was just 44 degrees. But the support from the village does not let the heat play with us.
We went to some 110 homes of the village and found that 77 tractors/trolleys don't have tale lights or their tale lights don’t work. We made them aware how the tale lights can prevent road accidents in night. The people understood the cause for which we were there and we placed reflector stickers (radium) on their vehicles. The best part was that the villagers not only let us place stickers on their vehicles but they were telling us where else we could go.
It was a wonderful experience and I felt that small efforts could really make big difference. The blessings from the heart of every villager and their support ensured us that we are on the right track.
We, at BS-BS Foundation, wish to replicate such small efforts in every village of India, so that we can make a small effort to reduce the number of road accidents in night. After all, more than 1 lakh people die in road accidents every year and out of that 50% accidents take place in night.
