For An Afternoon of Top-level Sharing and Learning about Social Media
By: WordHampton Public Relations

April 23, 2010 - PRLog -- The inaugural Social Media Camp LI (SMCampLI  http://www.smcampli.com ) will take place on Saturday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hofstra University. Over 150 social media enthusiasts will be brought together for an afternoon of sharing and learning in the Dempster Building on Hofstra’s Hempstead campus. Social Media Camp LI is an opportunity for people at any level of social media expertise (from beginner to advanced) to meet others who share their enthusiasm about this new way of sharing content in real time. The loose format enables participants to group themselves with those who can engage and instruct them in ways to achieve their goals - whether that means growing their businesses, enhancing their personal brand, or just sharing ideas and connecting with like-minded individuals.

Modeled after BarCamp UnConferences
Modeled on the globally popular BarCamp Unconferences, SMCampLI is a different environment from any meet-up or expo, where attendees sit back and listen, but rarely get to interact with the speakers or each other. Since attendees are strongly encouraged to present and participate, the sessions will be relevant to what's happening right now in the social media / marketing / PR space. To date, topics range from Social Media Basics to Using Geo-Location for CRM. There will also be breakout sessions on community building, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

SMCampLI is a free event for participants.  The event is hosted by Mo Krochmal, Assistant Professor of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations at Hofstra University School of Communication.  Sponsors include Austin & Williams Advertising; Hofstra School of Communication; Jeff Namnum;  St. Joseph's College, Long Island Campus; Sofrito Media Group, The New York Islanders and WordHampton Public Relations Inc. For further information, contact Jeff Namnum at 516-882-7712 or email info@smcampli.com.
