Votomatic.co.uk is an election web site that presents users with 3
policy statements on 13 topics and asks them to select one they agree
with. However, they don't know which policy belongs to which party.
This means that users will base decisions on policy rather then
personality.
The Liberal Democrats have emerged as early leader with 42% of
votomatic.co.uk users agreeing with their policies. This compares to
30% of votomatic.co.uk users who agreed with the Conservatives'
policies, with the remaining 28% agreeing with Labour's.
Liberal Democratic policies on Education, Defence and Housing have
been particularly well received with 71%, 58% and 53% of users
preferring their policy statements, respectively.
A majority of users preferred the Conservatives' policies on Europe
(51%). They also lead for Childcare (53%) and Social Justice (44%).
The Labour Party lead in only one area, Elder Care, with 39% of users
preferring their policy.
Votomatic.co.uk co-creator Michal Boleslav Měchura stated that "the
Liberal Democrats' policies are performing well across a wide range of
topics. It would appear that the party's strong showing in recent
polls (YouGov 22 April 2010, ComRes 21 April 2010) is not just down to
the performance of Nick Clegg and other candidates, but to having good
policies that resonate with the electorate".
Ends.
