Standup comic Steve Iott will headline a special one-night show slated for 8 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at The Comedy Room, which is located inside Portofino Restaurant in Wyandotte.
The show was organized by Trenton Rotary as a fundraiser for the PNC Roar on the River. Half of the $20 admission fee will be used to help underwrite the entertainment cost for this year’s Roar, set for July 23-25 in Trenton.
No stranger to television or the concert stage, Iott has appeared on A&E and Comedy Central and has opened for Steven Wright, Chicago and Jay Leno.
Iott, a self-described “embattled veteran comic who has seen it all,” has a dry, offbeat style that has been referred to by some as “comedy without a safety net.” He is known to blend the bizarre and the usual with his every-day personal trials.
The show also will feature a special guest appearance for budding comedic talent Julie Lyons, a Trenton native.
The show is the second event in a three-event series created by Rotary’s Roar on the River committee to help generate funding for the popular summer event. The first event was a preliminary “Battle of the Bands” held March 21 at Crystal Gardens in Southgate. The March event featured nine bands competing to be part of the Saturday entertainment at the Roar. A sequel to the Battle of the Bands will be held June 11 at Rack and Roll in Riverview to determine the winner.
Advance reservations are suggested for the show. Tickets can be reserved by calling (734) 934-6900 or online at www.trentonroarontheriver.com
The comedy show will be followed by a free after-party at Portofino featuring local disc jockey T.J. Montemayor. Portofino is located at 3455 Biddle Ave., on the waterfront just south of Eureka Road.
