Wichita Step-Family Conference Offers Military, Police & First Responder Special Program

April 22, 2010 - PRLog -- The Wichita Blended Family Marriage Conference is extending special registration pricing to military, police, fire, rescue and other ‘first responders’.   The stepfamily workshop, designed to educate, motivate and encourage stepfamilies is Saturday May 1st.   Believers Tabernacle serves as 2010 church location, and The Bonded Family, a leading national faith-based step-family organization is the host.

It is estimated that in the Wichita KS area alone over 150,000 people are directly living in, or are part of a step-family environment, often referred to as a ‘blended family’.  A recent Wichita community marriage study placed the divorce rate at over 60%, higher than the national average.  The conference is part of a community based effort to strengthen marriage and family.

Featured speakers at the Blended Family Conference are Jim and Julie Ziglar Norman and J.J. Jasper.  Julie Ziglar Norman is the youngest daughter of legendary motivational speaker Zig Ziglar. J.J. Jasper is an American Family Radio morning DJ and Comedian.  Jasper is himself in a blended family.  With a special Wichita connection, Russ and Jackie Jones, Publishers of the Christian Press, also will speak and also serve as Chairpersons for the local organizing committee for the step-family focused conference.  The cost of the conference is $89 per couple and includes lunch, the conference workbook and packet.

Five foundational step-family areas will be addressed during the Saturday conference:

Marital Harmony vs. Discord: The blended family environment can be a powerful source of marital discord between the marriage partners. A major factor in a 70%+ stepfamily dissolution statistic is related to problems that arise with raising children in a blended environment.

Leadership and Authority in the Home:  Solid Leadership in blended family situations can allow for the ‘bond’ of the family to become better formed.  Understanding the complex dynamics, sensitivities, roles, emotions and boundaries upfront will lead to greater success in a blended family.

Parental Coaching for Success: The earlier one understands and can ‘see’ the struggles for what they really are, the sooner the success for the blended family. Numerous stories and examples are discussed.  Practical tips and insight providing ‘Aha!’ moments.

Children of Divorce: Divorce and step-family scenarios often create wounds, competition, loyalty issues, and damaging conflict surrounding the family. The good news is by a newfound understanding of what a child ‘sees, hears and feels’ the parent/child relationship can experience a stronger and lasting bond.

Finding Peace with the Other Home (the Ex) – Insight and Tips regarding working with a difficult relationships and situations that impact your new family, that may be influenced by another home.
