April 21, 2010 - PRLog -- The unique array of award winning businesses includes 9 Business Service Offices, 8 Creativity and Learning Centers, 8 Food and Dining establishments, 12 Health and Beauty Businesses, as well as 13 Retail Shops. All businesses have been individually audited and each has been trained in the mandatory recycling program that was initially implemented in early 2009. Since the program’s introduction solid waste has been reduced by more than 75% and single stream recycling has been doubled. In addition to the reduced environmental impact, the Tannery Marketplace (http://www.tannerymarketplace.com) has managed to make this effort cost effective and plans to reduce the common area maintenance fee for all of its 55 tenants (after the initial infrastructure costs are paid for).

Included in the Tannery Marketplace’s (http://www.tannerymarketplace.com) environmental commitment is that the buildings themselves are “Green”. The Mill complex sports 400 150 Watt BP photovoltaic panels which is the largest privately owned solar array in of New England. Rainwater at The Tannery Marketplace is gathered in a 3000 gallon cistern and is re-used throughout the buildings for irrigation, radiant heat, light and photo sensors, as well as the restroom hand dryers. The Tannery Marketplace’s vehicles are powered by biodiesel and include a Cat Loader, Bobcat Skid Steer, VW Vanagon, and a 2005 London Taxi  (http://www.tannerymarketplace.com/web/taxi.htm) which is used as complementary transportation for Tannery Marketplace customers. Early in 2010, Heliostats for snow melting and day lighting were installed on the north side of Mill #1.

The Tannery Marketplace cares about its environmental footprint and continues to develop innovative ways to foster recycling efforts to work toward achieving zero waste. Its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability is grounded in the personal philosophy of Tannery Marketplace owner David Hall, who explains, “This is what I believe in, we are a large facility and it’s important that we take the lead on providing education and opportunity for businesses to initiate responsible waste disposal”. He adds, “We have really made this a priority and developed a top down model that involved small steps that have been added to elicit measurable and permanent results. I could not be more pleased with how my tenants have embraced this opportunity.”

The Tannery Marketplace celebrates Earth Day 2010 with a renewed sense of accomplishment and relishes the opportunities that await them for continued improvements in the future. Through its commitment to education and communication the future looks “greener” already.
