April 21, 2010 - PRLog -- As the more mature woman becomes ever savvier about trend-led fashion, and demand for ‘classic’ models increases across the fashion industry, the desire for great skin is set to soar, says SkinGenesis.

Peter Beard, director of leading skin clinic SkinGenesis, suggests there is still a gap in the market when it comes to fashion and beauty for the more mature woman.

Gillian MacPherson, 49 from Surrey, has proven that she still has ‘the look’ in her late forties after winning two awards at premier model search Top Model UK.

Gillian, who works as a PA, was placed first in the classic category of the UK’s leading professional model search in London, and she also received a Bare Skin Award, sponsored by SkinGenesis, which acknowledged her natural skin tone and clarity.

Gillian received a years modelling contract with Impact Model Management London, as well as access to the SkinGenesis skin maintenance programme for 12 months.

Gillian said: “I have always been interested in fashion and did some modelling in my younger years, but I think it’s so important for women of all ages to have fashion presented to them using models their own age. For example, I’ve seen some fashions turn full circle, so it’s always nice to know how to wear the latest trends appropriately the second time around. Women should not be afraid of experimenting with trends.

“Taking care of your body and your skin is very important in modelling. Everyone loves to look and feel good, but as you get older, you skin loses its elasticity and plumpness, and wrinkles can start to form. I cleanse, tone and moisturise my skin every day, as well as using an eye cream to try to keep any signs of ageing at bay.”

Peter Beard said: “The fashion industry has always been based on youth and models seem to get younger by the day. However fashion and beauty capture the interests of the more mature woman too, and it’s becoming increasingly evident that real women prefer to see models in their own age bracket demonstrating the latest trends.

“However the skin is one of the most important factors in the modelling industry. As the demand for more classic models continues to rise, so will the need for refreshed, more youthful looking skin as more and more people seek advice on how to combat signs of ageing, such as wrinkles, pigmentation and age spots.”

Gillian grew up in South Africa and due to lack of knowledge years ago on the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays, skin damage has started to manifest in her later years. The SkinGenesis maintenance programme will help to alleviate these signs of
sun damage and ageing and restore some of it youthfulness.

Lulu and Twiggy are the latest to draw attention to the need for more classic models in the fashion world, which has traditionally been fronted by younger models. Lulu recently launched a new book on how to achieve great skin naturally, and classic model Twiggy is now synonymous with the Marks & Spencer brand.

TOP MODEL UK is the UK's premier nationwide professional model search and fashion event.
