Samantha Stosur has won the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina.
In just 52 minutes - the shortest final in its 38-year history - Stosur whipped her Russian opponent Vera Zvonareva 6-0-6-3 and staked her claim for grand slam glory at the French Open next month.
She said afterwards she was feeling good and it had been a great to start the clay season.
The French Open at Roland Garros, Paris, is the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world and is in fact, the only Grand Slam in the world to be held on clay.
The tournament itself is one of the most prestigious tennis events held. It will run from May 23rd to June 6th this year.
Before the French Open, Stosur is scheduled to play the Fed Cup tie in Ukraine this weekend. However flights are currently still being stopped by volcanic ash, and she may be unable to travel there in time. If that is the case, it is expected that Tennis Australia would ask the International Tennis Federation to postpone the tie.
