April 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Virginia, USA - InfoWeapons’ Research and Development Center in the Philippines has been appointed as an IPv6 Ready Logo Test & Conformance Centre by the prestigious IPv6 Forum and its IPv6 Ready Logo Committee. The appointment, which was announced on March 30, 2010, makes InfoWeapons one of only six testing center in the world. Other test centers are based in Japan, USA, China, Taiwan and France.

This appointment authorizes InfoWeapons to test a product that supports IPv6 and certify that it is “IPv6 Ready”. This certification indicates that the product has passed specific conformance and interoperability standards set by the IPv6 Forum’s IPv6 Ready Logo Program. There are two levels of IPv6 Ready certification: Phase 1 (Silver logo) tests compliance with the “MUST” (mandatory) aspects of the relevant Internet Engineering Task Force RFCs (Internet standards). Phase 2 (Gold logo) also tests compliance with the “SHOULD” (strongly recommended, but not mandatory) aspects of the relevant IETF RFCs. Phase 1 compliance is adequate for casual deployments (home office, small companies), Phase 2 compliance is intended for mission critical deployments (large enterprise, government agencies, financial institutions, telcos).

To get any “IPv6 Ready” certification, a product must pass both conformance and interoperability testing of the IPv6 Core Protocols. There are also optional IPv6 Ready tests for more advanced IPv6 protocols, including DHCPv6 (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6), Mobile IPv6 (IPv6 for mobile nodes), IPsec over IPv6 (Internet Layer Security), IKEv2 (Internet Key Exchange, version 2), SIP over IPv6 (used in VoIP), NEMO (Networks in Motion), MLDv2 (Multicast Listener Discovery protocol, version 2) and SNMP over IPv6 (for network management). A given product might obtain certification for the Core Protocols, and optionally one or more of the advanced IPv6 protocols, depending on what features it includes. Further details about the program, and a list of products already certified “IPv6 Ready” is available on the website www.ipv6ready.org.

"InfoWeapons is proud to join the select group of organizations who are doing 'IPv6 Ready' testing. We feel that this testing is essential for the success of the transition to IPv6. For the first time, devices anywhere in the world must be able to interoperate directly with each other, as opposed to via intermediary systems (as with analog phones)," said InfoWeapons Chairman and CTO Lawrence E. Hughes. "IPv6 Ready tests put products and applications under a network 'microscope' and result in a very high confidence of full conformance with the IETF standards, and interoperation with other IPv6 products. We do not feel that our own products are complete until we have passed the Phase 2 (Gold level) tests."

InfoWeapons has announced that it is now ready to accept products for testing and certification. "We hope that our new test center will help IT vendors in the region to complete development and obtain certification of their IPv6 products. We hope to be able to add new test suites for use by all of the centres, starting with DNSSEC," Mr. Hughes added.

DNSSEC is a suite of security measures designed to protect the Domain Name System (DNS), which allows users to access Internet hosts using easy-to-remember names (such as "infoweapons.com") instead of IP addresses.

Vendors and manufacturers in Asia that wish to have their products tested may contact the InfoWeapons IPv6 Ready Logo Test & Conformance Centre at  (703) 291-1200 or U.S. toll free at 1 (877) 480-1634 or may email at ipv6readylogo@infoweapons.com.
