Hemorrhoids refer to the swollen veins inside the rectal and the anal region that are painful and cause itching and bleeding. There are two types of hemorrhoids; the internal hemorrhoids and the external hemorrhoids. A prolapsed internal hemorrhoid occurs when internal hemorrhoids come through the anal opening when straining to move your bowels. It causes severe pain when a blood clot forms inside an external hemorrhoid. This is called a hemorrhoids thrombosed; it can be felt as a firm, tender mass in the anal area about the size of a pea. The anal fissure is a thin slit-like tear in the anal tissue that usually causes itching, pain and bleeding.

A thorough understanding of this condition is very important so that you will know what to do when such conditions occur. Hemorrhoids are one of the most common conditions that affect both adults and children everywhere. The factors that contribute to its occurrence are excessive pressure on the rectal region while passing stool, prolonged sitting and lifting of heavy weights.

The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids is bright red blood covering the stool, on toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl. Symptoms of external hemorrhoids may include painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus that results when a blood clot forms. This condition is known as a thrombosed external hemorrhoid.

A home remedy for thrombosed hemorrhoids is often effective. The use of a warm sitz baths, changes in diet, topical anesthetics and herbal remedies are helpful. The changes in diet are most important and must include fiber rich foods. This is to avoid constipation and straining, therefore aids treatment of hemorrhoids thrombosed.
