April 20, 2010 - PRLog -- THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.--Members of the Conejo Valley YMCA Shark Swim Team and  Mormon Helping Hands volunteers came together on April 10 to paint, weed, construct benches, repair tables and beautify the 35 acre Conejo Valley YMCA at 4031 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks.

"It was an awesome sight to see so many 'Helping Hands' taking care of our YMCA," said Victor Alcanpar, property manager of the Conejo Valley YMCA. “The volunteers were a joy to work with and they went above and beyond my expectations."

Volunteers, more than 60 in all, ranged in ages from six to young adults. “Everyone had a job to do and not one stopped until it was done,” said Elder Hull in charge of the Helping Hands volunteers. “I felt so good at the end of the day to be of service to the YMCA.”

The volunteers scraped and painted 13 picnic tables, repaired and painted six lunch tables and chairs, constructed five poolside benches and painted and refinished six additional benches. They also scraped and repainted the Y's amphitheater stage, light pole and outdoor table set. Weed reduction and prep work was also done on the property to prepare for the Y's Equestrian Camp that will be held at the YMCA this summer.

“I'm so proud of all my swimmers who gave up a Saturday of their spring break to be of service,” said Tarrok Daou, Sharks head swim coach. “Not only did the swimmers lend a hand all day but they had the best attitude.”

The Conejo Valley YMCA offers a full spectrum of programs for children and adults including year round indoor/outdoor swim lessons, and swim team, Adult fitness programs and gym, on site child watch, after school programs, summer camps and much more. YMCA staff members are dedicated to service their community in the effort to help build strong kids, strong families and a strong community.
