In the first of several product introductions expected in 2010, Providence Food Company, the Atlanta-based producer of Functional Dry and Frozen Bakery and Griddle Products, has announced the rollout of its Probiotic Cake Base to the Retail Grocery Market in Texas.
Houston-based Fiesta Mart, Inc., in a move that confirms its status as a customer focused and innovative Grocery Retailer, will launch Trans Fat Free Probiotic Muffin and Mini Mantecada products made from Providence's base in Houston area Fiesta Mart stores on April 25th..
These traditional bakery products are part of the very latest push in the developing Functional Foods technology arena. The items are made with the Probiotic GanedenBC30, the trademarked brand name of the patented bacteria strain from Cleveland-based Ganeden Biotech.
Probiotics are “good” bacteria that help support healthy immune and digestive systems. Unlike many probiotic strains currently found in popular brands of yogurt, GanedenBC30 is able to survive the heat and pressure of manufacturing processes, as well as the acidic environment of the stomach. GanedenBC30 also remains viable without refrigeration, making it ideal for inclusion in shelf-stable products like muffins and cakes. Fiesta Mart is the first US Grocery Retailer to provide these specific powerful, and functional, alternatives to yogurt products in their bakery case.

Fiesta bakes their Probiotic Muffins and Mini Mantecadas in-house fresh daily from the Probiotic Cake Base manufactured by Providence (http://www.profoodco.com) in Texas.The probiotic is manufactured exclusively by Ganeden Biotech of Cleveland, Ohio, (http://www.ganedenlabs.com). The products will be distributed to the Fiesta stores by Johnson Bros. Bakery Supply, of San Antonio, Texas.
