Not-so-loveable loser Kurt wants a ticket to Easy Street, so he devises a half-cocked kidnapping plot one day. Little does he know, though, when he arrives at the home of his intended victim, not only does he find that she’s left town, but he also discovers - much to his dismay - that her husband doesn’t care enough about her to pay the ransom anyway. Even worse, her husband’s mistress soon learns about the plot, prompting her to want in on the action. With a host of other parties all wanting a piece of his hide, Kurt soon realizes the irony that lies in having to take such a tough road to Easy Street...
Cleverly crafted - and surprisingly amusing - Living The Dream is quite the entertaining read. In it, author Tim Baker has crafted an engaging tale with enough imaginative flair to hold the reader’s interest until the very end. Furthermore, as the story unfolds, he somehow manages to elicit empathy for rather seamy characters that one would typically find repulsive - not an easy task to pull off, but one that Baker nails in impressive fashion. In the end, Baker understands the visceral appeal of rooting for the underdog - even if he happens to be a cad - and in Living The Dream he successfully taps into that all-too-human sentiment that we all share...whether we like it or not. A fun read.
