Going on holiday can be the best way to relieve stress and give your general health a boost. A change of scene or a period of complete rest from the usual daily routine is undoubtedly a very positive thing. Unfortunately not all of us can take regular holidays. If you find yourself in this situation, prioritise taking small rests and making small changes so you can stay refreshed and positive without disrupting your work schedule too much.
If you can take one or two days away from your work schedule try to fit in a ‘mini-break’
If you have even less time than this then it’s still well worth taking a little ‘time out’ of one day, even if it is only every few days.
When we are busy it is easy to forget about making time for ourselves, but there is always a way to give yourself a break. Make ‘me time’ a regular part of your life, whether you can take extended holidays or not, and notice the benefits.
Here are Models Direct’s top ‘time out’ strategies for those with very busy lifestyles:
Social networking/news/
Hobbys – Try to work an interest or hobby into your life. It needn’t take up an enormous amount of time. Just a half hour here and there will give your brain a rest from work issues.
Guided imagery – Daydream your way to a moment of relaxation - on the tube, in the shower or even as you drop off to sleep.
Reading – Get a good book to read on your way to or from work, on a lunch break or at bedtime.
Home-spa night – Don’t just take a shower - run a bath every so often. Add your favourite bath oil, light a candle and listen to music while you relax for a few minutes – yes, men too! Facemasks and hair treatments are optional.
Exercise – Often our excuse for not exercising is that we don’t have time, but it doesn’t have to be time-consuming. As little as half an hour three times a week will make a huge difference to your mental and physical health and you will find that it gives you more energy too!
Social time – ‘No man is an island’, so make time for some social interaction…
