April 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Detroit, Michigan—Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S. helped support fundraising activities at Henry Ford Community College on April 11, 2010 during their annual Radiothon. WHFR.FM celebrates 25 years of radio this year with most funds for its budget coming from loyal listeners who support their efforts. Kimle Mitchell, the founder, co-hosted the program “Strictly Gospel” with Andre Archer, and offered listeners the chance to receive two tickets to attend the 2nd Annual "Real Women Like Us - Redefining Our Beauty" Spring Fashions in the Garden and Luncheon on Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 1:30 – 6:30 pm when they made a certain size donation. At this event, Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S. will be  helping Alternatives for Girls raise much-needed resources to continue their mission in the community. The economic crisis in the Detroit Metropolitan area has resulted in the loss of funding for many organizations like whfr.fm and Alternatives for Girls that rely on the public sector for 50% to 60% of their operating budgets.

You can attend this event that we will be held at the Shriners Silver Garden, 24350 Southfield Road, Southfield, MI.  The theme for the Real Women Like Us - Redefining Our Beauty event is Women of Wisdom: Reaching Back for Our Daughters, which will include the phenomenal Dr. Marilyn French Hubbard, Silvia Clark, and Judy Muhn. Each of these women will share their wisdom and knowledge gained from their journey to enrich other’s lives, and provide valuable information to help us teach our daughters to become women of character and excellence. Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S. and Alternatives For Girls support the development of girls so they continue to have strong leadership in their families and communities.

A spectacular lunch will be provided, along with vendors, entertainment and the fabulous fashion show featuring special designs by Cedrick “Cedi” Johnson who is celebrating 25 years of fashion designs in the Detroit area. You will also be entertained by the sounds of Detroit's own Jazz Extraordinaire, Duane Parham, a saxophonist and Motown Artist, Remonda Sheffield, soloist, and Poetess, Ber-henda Williams.

I really enjoyed the Real Women Like Us Fashion Show Luncheon.  It was inspiring, informative and beautiful.  I had a very good time.  Although I went to the event alone, everyone was so friendly that I was able to enjoy the company of the members of my table.  I also ran into several people that I knew or had met before at the vendor booths.  I really look forward to going again this year…..Manola Webster

About Alternatives For Girls
The goal of Alternatives For Girls is to empower the girls and young women we serve to make positive choices. Our mission is to help homeless and high-risk girls and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation, and help them to explore an access the support, resources and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong and to make positive choices in their lives.

The inspiration for Alternatives For Girls came in 1985 when a group of southwest Detroit residents, clergy and business people began to share concerns about the alarming increase in drug use, homelessness, prostitution and street activity among girls and young women. Originally a small, volunteer-run program, operating a five-bed emergency shelter in a neighborhood church, Alternatives For Girls has evolved into a multi-service agency with over 50 employees. It is housed in a two-story brick building constructed in 2002 following the successful completion of a $4.5-million capital campaign

About Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S.
Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S. is an organization that offers life coaching and tools designed to empower women in their everyday life. Our mission is to create a more powerful you, by reminding you of the essence you are simply by being a woman.

We encourage women to join together in a Sisterhood, so as we share our stories and lessons with each other in a loving way, it becomes possible to open ourselves to new resources to create new experiences. When we travel through our “dark night of the soul” inside of the Sisterhood, we can entrust our Sisterhood to hold a sacred space for us, until we emerge triumphantly from our own darkness into the new essence we are. We learn to share in the darkness, and to share in the triumphs and victories.

All change is based on personal commitment to ourselves. The theme for Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S. is Self- Improvement Simply Takes Education, Redevelopment, and Sincerity, and through this process of education and redevelopment, you can transform your whole being. Positive S.I.S.T.E.R.S. offers a forum for women to take a journey of self-discovery with the support of a Sisterhood, so we all share in the re-birth of our lives.
