Sean Wright's latest album release is a tribute to the spirit of Sparklehorse. At the time he was writing and recording the album, Wright couldn't shake Mark Linkous's music and tragic early death from his mind. The two songwriters had collaborated musically via Myspace during 2007 and 2008.
"I've been a fan for 15 years," says indie lo-fi songsmith Wright. "I've a drawer full of Sparklehorse memorabilla dating way back - concert ticket stubs, posters, old and rare collectible items."
Sean Wright's Spaklehorse album is not a covers album. It's not a copycat album. "There will only ever be one Sparklehorse,"
Away from Wright's passion for Linkous's music, he has spent the past three years writing, recording, and releasing a new album every month. Each album offers 12 new, original tracks, which are available for free MP3 download at Last FM , Jamendo, and his official website.
As one of the internet's first artists to offer his whole catalogue of songs for free download, Wright has out done many of his contemporaries, such as Brad Sucks, Josh Woodward, and Allison Crowe. In terms of album releases, in such a short time span, there is no artist on the planet to compare to Wright's achievement. With over 500,000 free downloads of his songs in 3 years, Wright considers the Album-A-Month Project a surprising success.
"My songs have attracted so much more attention than I ever dreamed they would," he said. "The internet has no doubt made this all the more possible."
All of Sean Wright's 500+ catalogue of songs can be downloaded legally and for free, shared, copied, and remixed via his official website www.seantwright.com . His songs are Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licensed.
