April 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Detroit homeless advocate and owner of the Wellness Resource Center, Versandra Kennebrew, has collaborated with Everest Institute (Downtown Campus) to present Pampering with a Purpose, a benefit for “Hunter House”, May 8, 2010 from 7:00 am – 10 pm at the Northwest Activities Center, located at 18100 Meyers Rd, Detroit, MI.

Kennebrew, a member of the National Coalition for the Homeless says, “1 in 3 homeless people are under 18 and opening a facility in Detroit that provides safe, supportive housing for teen girls aging out of foster-care is the least I can do to help prevent homelessness.” She says her personal story of triumph over homelessness has allowed her to encourage and empower people all over the country. Ms. Kennebrew has visited shelters and presented at homeless conferences since her book, “Thank God for the Shelter – Memoirs of a homeless healer” was released in November of 2008. Through those visits to various homeless conferences, she learned that youth homelessness among was the fastest growing segment in that population. This startling information haunted her until she decided to use the proceeds from her books sales to help stop the teen homeless cycle in Detroit.

Mother’s Day Weekend and Pampering with a Purpose seemed to be the perfect fit as she contemplated additional ways to raise funds necessary to open “Hunter House.” Kennebrew plans to dedicate this facility, (which will teach residents a holistic approach to self-sufficiency) to her deceased grandmother, Nina Bell Hunter. After Kennebrew placed a call to the Everest Institute’s Lead Instructor, Mr. Jonathan Burt, fifteen graduating students were contacted and they volunteered to provide free massages for those who donated to the cause.
