Downtown Raleigh comprises 110 blocks and is home to approximately 5,000 residents. Its office market consists of nearly six million square feet of space concentrated around the Fayetteville Street District. Its retail market totals 1.2 million square feet with over 200,000 additional square feet under construction or planned. Bull himself is a downtown resident and is currently a member of the Economic Development Committee of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance. Bull says that he “loves” living downtown and intends to continue increasing his professional presence in this vibrant market.
“Raleigh is a city that continues to transform itself,” explains Bull. “With its museums, special events, performing arts, a convention center and restaurants, downtown Raleigh has something for everyone. I enjoy every opportunity to introduce our city’s richness and diversity to prospective businesses.”
The Downtown Raleigh Alliance serves as an independent contractor for the City of Raleigh to supplement city services in the downtown district. The organization is a guiding force in shaping a healthy center that anchors the city and region. DRA Economic Development Manager, Paul Reimel, has worked with Bull and other downtown stakeholders on developing a retail recruitment strategy for the area over the last few years and says that he is grateful for Bull’s continued support of the organization.
“I truly am thankful for everything that Shane has done for the Downtown Raleigh Alliance,” says Reimel. “From networking to bring others on board, to his consistent help and guidance on our retail program, I really appreciate all of his efforts and value our partnership.”
The history of The Downtown Raleigh Alliance can be traced back to a 1996 grassroots movement by a handful of visionary downtown leaders and property owners concerned about the future of Downtown Raleigh. At the time, the Alliance operated in a role similar to a traditional merchant's association. In 2000, the organization took a momentous leap forward by advocating for the formation of the business improvement districts (BIDs). Today, the Alliance optimizes its resources by building unique partnerships and collaborations with the public and private sectors to address issues facing downtown Raleigh.
