Registration for the 5K portion of the 3rd Annual St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon & 5K Presented by Comcast closed today at noon EST when participant capacity of 2,500 for the 5K Run was reached.
"Our community is indebted to all the parents and teachers that have organized training programs in the local schools," said Tom Britt, founding board member and president of the Geist Half Marathon. "Thanks to their efforts, over 60% of the sold out 5K field is coming from one of the school training programs."
Last year, both the 5K and half marathon were sold out weeks before the inaugural run. This year, even with an expanded field of 6,500 total participants, officials expect both races to sell out prior to the May 22nd race date.
The "Race Around the Reservoir" will take place on Saturday, May 22nd, beginning on the north end of Geist Reservoir near 113th Street and Olio Road and ending at the Geist Lake Marina overlooking Geist Reservoir. This year's 5K will be attended by more than 1,500 youth and adult mentors participating in area school-sponsored training programs.
