PRLog -- Why are custodians at Dorchester High are up in arms about kids dancing in the auditoriums after school? The kids are part of Hot Stepz Magazine's dance crew and street team and although they only dance and there has never been an incident of violence vandalism or even bad manners they were tageted by night custodians to be evicted and have their permit to utilize the auditorium revoked because (some surmise) there presence cuts down on the custodians down time and forces them to be vigilant on a shift formerly without the presence of the community. Thus ultimately they have the power to crush Mayor menino's after school Initiative which became part of Boston Beyond, a new 501(c)(3) organization, that was created by combining the 2:00-to-6:00 with Boston's After-School for All Partnership. Boston Beyond grew out of a year-long planning process funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Boston Beyond is a public/private partnership to organize the many networks and organizations that make up the out-of-school time field into a coherent system with the goal of expanding access to high-quality programming for all of Boston's families. But this is in Jeopardy because a few custodians didn't want to open the door for community kids looking for a positive outlet. This writer spoke to Mr. Mooney site manager who was unable to cite any reason for the rescindence of the permit except that Once on April 4th the signator on the permit Neeca Wilder arrived
1 hour late although the sales manager of Hot Stepz was on site as well as 2 other adult Marketing Interns since they were not on the permit the custodian wrote a complaint that thre was no adult supervision for the youth who had not yet arrived! J. Lynda Blake who has met with the Governor and a few senators about a multitude of community youth issues was shocked to find that our youths access to key facilities for empowerment could be so easily taken away by those who are not vested in the community.
