Star agent Valerie Fitzgerald says she has a presence on nearly 50 sites, and she's "very active" on six - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, Active Rain, and Plaxo.
Fitzgerald, a Coldwell Banker agent in Los Angeles, advises readers of industry newsletter "Real Estate Broker's Insider" to use a business only approach to social networking.
She has no interest in discussing her lunch plans or her daughter's accomplishments. "I don't have anything personal on any of my social networking sites," Fitzgerald says.
And she has seen plenty of payoff from this approach, including the recent referral of an actor looking for a home that came to her through Facebook. Fitzgerald also has hired two agents through Facebook.
