The Russell Bazaar in Detroit and BSM Books Partner to Launch Ongoing Open Mic Poetry Event

April 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Detroit, MI, : The Russell Bazaar has partnered with one of its’ vendors, BSM Books to launch an ongoing open mic poetry series every Saturday from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The series kicked off on April 10th and featured 20 poets from the Detroit area and was hosted by Jah X El, a popular Detroit spoken word artist. The success of the event on Saturday prompted the owner of BSM Books and publicist Mittie Stephens-Lewis, to continue the show with the assistance of Jah X El.

“I was extremely impressed by the caliber of show that Jah has helped me put together. His knowledge of spoken word event planning and connections with so many wonderful poets is astounding! This would not have been possible without his assistance and I look forward to working with him every week to plan a great show for poetry lovers. I have always loved to read, write and listen to poetry and this event gives me the opportunity to enjoy an art that I love. Most importantly, it supports spoken word artists in Detroit who need the exposure. “

Jah X El is thrilled about assisting with the planning, as well as hosting the series every week.
“As a poet, author, supporter, and lover of the art of spoken word, my ambition, as it is with my book (Jah'isms - Inspirational Poems for Women) is to encourage, uplift, inspire, and entertain with my gift of writing poetry.This is also the goal I have for the platform being graciously provided by BSM Books at the Russell Bazaar.The turn-out and support shown by poets AND patrons at the first show was amazing and equally entertaining, and I promise to do all in my ability to keep this display of talent a MAJOR attraction at the Russell Bazaar...”
