Street Art, Charity and a very Big Lemon

When is a bus not a bus? When it is a work of art! Residents of Brightons may feel their eyes are deceiving them as they witness monsters on bicycles and dogs in pinstripe suits on the side of local, environmentally-friendly Big Lemon buses.

April 15, 2010 - PRLog -- This visual spectacle marks the Brighton-based, annual street art and graffiti event, ‘The Beautiful and The Canned’ and was created by local artists SNUB 23 and Funky Red Dog, who were asked to paste their artwork on to the instantly recognisable buses.

The urban art showcase will take place in Jubilee Square and other multiple city locations during the weekend of 8-9 May as part of the Festival Fringe. Well known street and graffiti artists will be painting high profile areas in Brighton and giving visitors a rare opportunity to see the artists at work. There will also be a public gallery selling exclusive artwork in Myhotel.

This year The Beautiful and the Canned is helping to raise awareness for the national homeless and housing charity; Shelter and specially designed tee-shirts by some of the artists will be on sale in the Brighton Shelter shop prior to the event and via the gallery over the weekend.

Event organizers Wet Paint Productions and The Big Lemon teamed up again after the success and enthusiastic response from customers last year. Wet Paint Productions founder Guy Harris, said: “Behind the serious message of raising awareness of homelessness through street art, this is a bit of fun. We hope that the buses raise a few smiles and double-takes on their journeys.”

Tom Druitt, owner of The Big Lemon said: “We’re happy to support such a worthy cause and this offers an unusual and visual way to engage with our customers and raise awareness of a unique local event.”
