Harbin Suffered the Heaviest Snow in Half a Century

In last few days, Harbin was hit by rarely heavy snow which has not occurred for 50 years

It is reported that Harbin was hit by rarely heavy snow in these days and the daily snowfall is up to the maximum in the past 50 years. The snow started from April 12th; its snowfall reached 28.8mm by 11 o’ clock on April 13th and was still continue falling

The heavy snow brought serious effect on Harbin’s transportation, energy supply, communication facilities, agricultural production and people’s daily life.

It is reported that at present the Harbin Taiping International Airport has been forced to close, 48 flights have been delayed and more than 2,400 passengers have been stranded. 7 highways have been shut down and the highway transportation has been suspended completely. Moreover, several bus lines stopped running too. It is very difficult for people to go out.

In order to ensure the safety of younger students, Harbin’s primary schools and junior middle schools were closed on April 14th and middle and primary schools of Hegang   (http://www.chinatouronline.com/china-travel/heilongjiang-... ) will have two days off.

This serious snowfall also exacerbates the difficulties in Harbin’s spring ploughing. By April 13th, the snow was continue falling, in some segments of the highway the thickness of snows has reached 20cm, which greatly affected the traffic.
