Award-Winning Author Stephen Larsen, PhD, Discusses His Book The Healing Powers of Neurofeedback with Pam Atherton on the A Closer Look Radio Show April 13, 2010

Los Angeles, CA  -  Stephen Larsen, PhD, award-winning author and Psychology Professor Emeritus from SUNY Ulster, New York, will be interviewed by talk show host Pam Atherton on A Closer Look Radio Show live on the Internet at acloserlookradio.com, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 1 to 2 pm Pacific time.  They will discuss some of the ideas put forth in Larsen’s book The Healing Powers of Neurofeedback.

Larsen will talk about what neurofeedback is, and what healing applications it has, with a special focus on the LENS method (low energy neurofeedback system).  The LENS is considered a revolutionary technique for mental health care as it restores optimal brain function  in a gentle way.  The LENS technique was invented by Larsen’s mentor and colleague, Dr. Len Ochs, to whom Larsen’s book is dedicated.  Ochs, Siegried Othmer, Larsen, Mary Lee Esty, and many others focus much of their work on healing the wounds of war and trauma.

When Dr. Larsen was on the faculty at Ulster, 1968-1996, he directed a program in consciousness studies and biofeedback that gave students a hands-on opportunity to train themselves, and to research the health benefits of biofeedback.  In 1990 he opened Stone Mountain Counseling, PC, for psychotherapy, biofeedback, neurofeedback, and training where he continues to serve as its director.

Pam Atherton is an award-winning journalist, and radio/TV host, whose program “A Closer Look Radio” welcomes guests from all professions for one-on-one lengthy interviews.   “We go where curiosity takes us,” says Pam about the show’s subjects.   Past guests have been well-known government officials, motion picture and TV stars, physicians, physicists, authors, stuntmen, etc.   A Closer Look Radio archives all its shows; the shows are available as podcasts for listening 24/7, after the shows air, at the A Closer Look Radio web site.

In addition to the widely acclaimed The Healing Power of Neurofeedback: The Revolutionary LENS Method for Restoring Optimal Brain Function (2006), Larsen wrote the award-winning The Fundamentalist Mind: How Polarized Thinking Imperils Us All.  He has also written The Shaman’s Doorway, the Mythic Imagination and with his wife Robin Larsen he co-authored, A Fire in the Mind: The Life of Joseph Campbell.  Larsen was a Joseph Campbell friend and protégé.
