PRLog (Press Release) - Apr 13, 2010 -
There was a time when people thought they had a sinus infection they made a trip to their doctor's office expecting to get antibiotics to treat their sinus infection. Doctors routinely wrote prescriptions for antibiotics because it was assumed that sinus infections were caused by bacteria and it was the standard sinus infection treatment.

This has gone on for many years and many people still suffer after a seven day or ten day course of antibiotics. Prescriptions were usually for seven days. People with sinus infections were not getting better so it became more common to prescribe antibiotics for ten days. This was not working either but in some cases the body was healing the infection on its own so it was thought that ten days may be curing the sinus infection.

As time passed and more studies were done it was discovered that sinus infections were not likely to be caused by bacteria at all but more likely they were caused by fungus. Fungus is mold. Fungus is commonly found throughout every household. It is hard to avoid fungus. There are many types of fungus. But you can look in your bathroom around the shower, bathtub, sink, toilet, and windows for mold, usually black but smaller spores may not be evident.

You'll not be able to completely eliminate fungus from your home but you can reduce it. Fungus is in the air. Good ventilation of your household will help prevent sinus infections. In the winter especially, air your house out as much as possible.

Antibiotics have many side effects and people build up resistance to them over time. Another problem with antibiotics for treating sinus infections is the antibiotics were not reaching the sinus cavities even if there was a bacterial infection present.

Treating a sinus infection naturally is your best bet. There are several ways to treat a sinus infection without numerous side effects from antibiotics and harmful drugs. This includes harmful chemicals and drugs that people are spraying and putting up their noses in hopes that they will care their sinus infection.

These drugs and medications are not natural and may cause irritation, pain and new sinus problems. Avoid treating your sinus infection with anything that is not natural. Putting herbs and safer sounding ingredients up your nose like capsaicin and oregano oil may cause you more sinus problems.
