www.NARescue.com - Operation Comfort, a 501 C-3 non profit organization that provides support for wounded soldiers, was pleased to find themselves on the receiving end of a $100,000 donation from North American Rescue, LLC, based in Greer, South Carolina, and quickly put the funds to much needed use. Now, after months of hard work and devoted labor, the finishing touches are being put on the newly remodeled 5,000 square foot Marine Corps Annex building at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas.

Operation Comfort coordinates donations of goods, services, and money from all across the country to provide comfortable, rehabilitative living areas and family waiting rooms for service personnel being treated in the burn and orthopedic units at BAMC. The organization was begun in 2004 by Janis Rosnowski, an American Airlines flight attendant who was part of a team transporting soldiers to and from the Middle East.

The renovated Marine Corps Annex building will serve as a recreation and relaxation area for wounded Marines and their families as well as provide office space for the Marine Patient Affairs Team.

Interior modifications of the facility included automatic wheelchair accessible doors, Pergola flooring, new kitchen cabinets, new carpet and paint (including Marine Corps red accent walls in all the rooms), as well as a large, custom-made, red curtain with an embossed Marine Corps emblem.

The improvements didn’t stop there. Along with the new interior came a beautiful outdoor living area. A 38’x38’ concrete patio was installed, including a gazebo, stone benches, fencing, street lights, and a flag pole to bear the Marine flag. The extensive landscaping included a man-made creek with boulders and a foot bridge, imported red lava rock, grass, and shrubs. In order to maintain easy access, a new concrete drive to the outdoor living area was poured, as well as additional wheelchair parking in front of the building. A grill, several picnic tables with umbrellas, chairs, and chaise lounges were also purchased to bring the comforts of home to our recovering heroes.

“Having had the great experience of being in the presence of some of the bravest men and women I have ever met makes me realize that we can never do enough for them,” says Operation Comfort founder Janis Rosnowski. “North American Rescue is one of the finest companies I know of and I can assure you we could not have accomplished so much without their help. They have continually supported our organization in helping our wounded service members. Their support is invaluable.”
