Roland V-Piano: the ultimate piano for professionals

April 12, 2010 Gary Barlow, Yusuf Islam, Russell Watson, Mike Skinner (The Streets), Sade, Moby, Kate Nash, Howard Jones, Jon Lord, Hayley Westerna, Paul Moran (Van Morrison) and Chris Cameron (George Michael and Leona Lewis) all have at least two things in common: firstly they’re all professional musicians, and secondly they all have a Roland V-Piano.

The V-Piano isn’t a digital piano: it doesn’t contain any samples because every sound is built from scratch. It’s a “living” piano so it feels as natural as any acoustic piano but it’s completely customisable.

The state-of-the-art technology on board means that the V-Piano can sound like a classic grand piano complete but it can also sound like a futuristic hybrid.

Praise for the V-Piano, from the professionals who use it

“The V-Piano is nigh on perfect. Astoundingly good - responsive and intuitive. A great pleasure to play” Jon Lord

“The new Roland V-Piano is a beast. The best digital Piano I've ever heard” Mike Skinner

“The Roland V Piano is amazing and is being used to record my new album for Sony Records” Russell Watson

“I'm really excited about the new technology that Roland is using in the new Roland V-Piano. It is the best sound and touch I have heard and felt on an electric keyboard and will give new opportunities to pianists/keyboard players to play with dynamics during live performances” Kate Nash

“The first thing was the fact it doesn’t sample: it models. My issue with electric pianos is the attack not being transient at the front, and as soon as I played the Roland V-Piano it had that straightaway. It’s got the real attack as well as the dynamic range that you expect from an acoustic instrument. You put the sustain pedal down, and the notes ring on and on as they would on a grand piano, due to no looping. For a start, that’s miles ahead of anything else on the market. If you have an instrument in front of you that sounds beautiful, it will immediately inspire you. I’ve taken a full-size grand piano on the road before and it’s a nightmare; you can’t get it into some venues and then the tuning goes, and you have to mic it up in loads of different ways depending on the acoustics in the venue, so I was always looking for a digital piano that coped with all these issues.” Howard Jones

“The V-Piano is the next step in the goal of imitating the world’s finest grand pianos. The touch, resonance, and feel takes the V-Piano to a new level” Paul Moran

“Most keyboards I've played I've played because they did the trick when there wasn't a piano available. The V-Piano is the one exception I've come across. It's not a substitute, but an instrument itself” Julian Velard

“The quality of the modelling within the V-Piano is the best around, with a natural decay that is as close to the real thing as you will find. It also has a beautifully weighted action”
Tom Hickox

“With a brilliant touch, and superb sensitivity, the V-Piano gives me the opportunity to invent and perform new rhythmical melodies as well as customizing to my sound” Aron Ottigon

“We have had over 100 artists play the V-Piano from up and coming artists playing at our Power Down at the Power House acoustic evening to signed artists making cutting edge recordings in the studio, everyone has commented how pleasantly surprised they have been with the sound and ultimate results” Ian Benchley Metropolis Studio

“George Duke is absolutely right, this piano is awesome.....I want two” Chris Cameron

Praise for the V-Piano, from the media

“As a performer, I can only say that for the entire time spent playing the V-Piano, I felt completely immersed in the experience in a way that sampled alternatives don’t quite match....I fell in love with it” Nick Magnus, Sound on Sound

“V-Piano is a truly remarkable instrument– one that can rightly claim to be unique in its approach to re-creating the sound and feel of a real piano….. this is a true player’s instrument” Hollin Jones, Music Tech

“Roland had a lot to live up to here. With the legacy of their flagship RD-1000 still fresh in the memory, they've gone all out to create a professional Digital Piano that really delivers.”
Gordon Reid, Performing Musician

“Digital pianos have been sounding be¬tter and be¬tter, but Roland saw the limits of the technology and decided to reinvent the wheel” Chris Elcombe, Classical Music
