A hobby like this isn't a usual occurance in most offices and cant be underestimated. A project like this takes a lot of time and dedication to complete and managing all of the different areas whilst having a full time job at Castle Cover must be challenging. Sarah Griffin feels that working for Castle Cover has actually helped her with the project.
"In honesty, I don't think I would have handled the process as well as I did without the experience I've gained with Castle Cover. It's been a big project to manage - prior to the actual recording, during the recording and afterwards in mixing, mastering, creative and production."
So how did Sarah get to this point? She is originally from Rotherham, she moved to Bournemouth to acquire a BA(Hons) in multi-media journalism. "I was basically out and about filming news pieces, recording radio packages and writing articles, as well studying politics, law and ethics. Although I really enjoyed my degree, I'd decided by the end that I didn't want to become a journalist and would rather pursue marketing."
She joined the RNLI in 2005 as a marketing co-ordinator, predominantly working on direct catalogue marketing, offline and online, as well as retail. But in 2008 she took up her current role with Castle Cover, so why choose to work for an over 50s insurance specialist?
"RNLI was a great place for me to start, and I think they do a terrific job, but I'd come to the point where I needed a new challenge. Over 50s insurance wasn't necessarily the obvious choice, but I just found the amount of activity going on at Castle Cover exciting."
"The company is still relatively young but very ambitious, and it's definitely a demanding environment. I've been lucky enough to get a lot of exposure here, and the learning curve is steep, but interesting."
So, would Sarah give up next year's cruise or beach holiday again for a windowless studio? "I would definitely do it again, and probably enjoy it a lot more the second time around!," she says. "The experience was incredible, but because I'd never recorded professionally before, I was so nervous throughout the whole process. It was all new and there were decisions to be made constantly, which is difficult when you're producing an album that you're also a part of musically. I'd probably produce again though, I like to have the last say!"
"I took out a loan to enable me to do it 'properly', so obviously there was a financial pressure to get it right. We all had to be patient with each other. We recorded residentially so we were living and working together 24/7, and the days were very long. I'm making this sound horrific, so I should probably add that it was also great fun!"
