The non-profit agencies HomeAid partners with have seen double digit increases in request for services. What makes these reports particularly unsettling is the dramatic increase in homeless families with small children. As a parent of twin three year old boys, I know all to well that the single largest cost of raising my boys has been for the essentials – diapers, baby wipes, and baby food. Now more then ever is that moment in life when we need to stop what we are doing to help our fellow man, these are scary times, these families need our help.” stated Terry Kent, Vice President, Crestwood Communities and board president of HomeAid Inland Empire. According to The National Center on Family Homelessness, one out of every 50 children in America has the traumatic experience of going to sleep without a home of their own each year. In California, more than 100,000 children under the age of six are homeless. With these devastating statistics, it is easy to see the needs are great and recipient organizations will deeply value the support. HomeAid Inland Empire is a non-profit organization with the mission to build and maintain dignified housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives, and was established in 1990 under the auspices of the Baldy View, Desert, and Riverside Chapters of the Building Industry Association of Southern California. To date the organization has completed 22 housing developments throughout the Inland Empire that serve victims of domestic violence, abused and abandoned children and homeless families. The concept of HomeAid began in Orange County, Calif. in 1989 when members of the Building Industry Association established HomeAid as a way to support non-profit agencies serving homeless families and individuals in their community by doing what they do best – building.
