How to Save $17M on a Dashboard Project

Interactive visual analytics provider recreates multi-million dollar government project at a fraction of the cost

April 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Piscataway, NJ - InetSoft Technology (www.inetsoft.com), a pioneer of dashboards, reporting, and interactive analytic visualization software, announced that it has re-created the interactive data features found on the Recovery.gov website.  The Recovery.gov dashboards can be accessed freely at http://visualizefree.com/recovery.jsp, and users are able to link back to the original application in each instance to compare the functionality of the two.

The impetus to re-create the original features arose from the announcement that the General Services Administration (GSA) allocated over $18 million in taxpayer funds to improve the interactivity of the Recovery.gov website over the next five years.  InetSoft then re-made the features over a period of two weeks for an estimated $1,000 of billed time using a free version of its dashboard software called Visualize Free.  The dashboards were created by a Marketing Associate with virtually no knowledge of programming.

“We learned about the amount of money and time being invested to make the Recovery.org website interactive and were a little surprised,” said Mark Flaherty, Vice President of Marketing at InetSoft.  “The cost for purchasing our commercial visualization software doesn’t even approach one tenth of one percent of the estimated cost of re-designing the Recovery.gov website.  And, full deployment takes mere weeks, not years to achieve.  This provocative dashboard project illustrates the power, ease, and affordability of our business intelligence solutions.”

The Recovery.gov Dashboards were created using Visualize Free; a free visual analysis tool based on the advanced commercial dashboard and visualization software developed by InetSoft. Visualize Free permits anyone to upload and sift through multi-dimensional data to spot trends and aberrations or slice and dice data with simple point-and-click methods, and gives users the option to share their visual analysis with others or keep it private.
