Health & Safety Executive Give Radon Awareness Initiative A Boost

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE)’s objective is “to prevent death, injury and ill-health of  those at work and those affected by work activities.”

In the UK, HSE is responsible for requiring  employers to complete radon risk assessments, in accordance with the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, if their workplace is located in an area defined by the Health Protection Agency as radon affected or if it has basement or below-ground rooms that are occupied by workers for more than around an hour per week.

HSE has carried out enforcement work in radon affected areas for several years and has undertaken several inspection and publicity initiatives in such areas.  It has also provided support to local authorities on the development of their own radon enforcement policies.  Information about radon risks and their management is available on the HSE web site

HSE’s mission and decision-making framework is based upon the principle of reducing risks and protecting people, so the ‘Reduce Radon’ t-shirt felt right at home with Mr Clark.

The Radon Tee World Trek 2010 is an initiative sponsored by US non-profit organisation, CanSAR (Cancer Survivors Against Radon) CanSAR is dedicated to preventing radon-induced lung cancer and saving lives through education and awareness, and the Radon Tee campaign aims to bring social awareness to communities through the power of photos, videos and personal stories.
