IIMSAM Official Dr. Homoud Honored with Most Influential Person of the Year Award

April 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Akhbarna honored Dr. Naseer Homoud, the Director of the regional office and Goodwill Ambassador of the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), with its highest honor, the prestigious Most Influential person of the Year Award-2009 in Jordan. The honor was bestowed upon Dr. Homoud at the organization's facilitation ceremony held on April 9, 2010 at the Royal Culture Centre, Amman.

The facilitation ceremony was organized by Akhbarna to acknowledge and honor Dr. Homoud for his social works particularly for children and hunger ridded peoples across the region. He was felicitated in a gleaming ceremony organized at Royal Culture Centre in Amman amid huge attendees including several important and prominent attendees including several Ministers, top officials and renowned singers of Jordan. The award and memento was conferred by His Excellency Faisal Al Fayez, Former Prime Minister of Jordan.

Dr. Naseer Homoud is an eminent and well known personality of the Jordan being known across the world for his humanitarian and social activities.  Known for his philanthropist activities Dr. Homoud has achieved several accomplishments in his life in acknowledgement of his work. The sincere and honest efforts of Dr. Homoud are widely acclaimed in region and Jordan in particular. His work for women empowerment, against racial discrimination, elimination of poverty and for securing basic amenities for hunger and undernourished people are exemplary in itself. Dr. Homoud is known for his exceptional work for marginalized section of society and is considered one of the leading voices in the country on finding solutions to human issues such as malnutrition, hunger, education, public safety- to name a few. His work under banner of IIMSAM has brought much prestige to the organization and now IIMSAM is known as a house hold name in the region particularly in Jordan.

Outlining vision and resolution for choosing Dr. Homoud for this award Yazan Kawas the General Manager and host of the event said “in making our choice, we fully realized that our focus is on humanity and of course there were many contenders, But then, we reckoned that Dr. Homoud represents the work and profile which needs dire attention, from all corners of society.  “We were simply impressed by the approaches of Dr. Homoud towards well planned philanthropy activities and practical implementations thereto and he was the best choice available for us”. Yazan further added "Dr. Homoud is a true social leader and worker and he has demonstrated, time and time again, his tireless and energized support and leadership on issues that matter to every person on this earth who dreams of an egalitarian society and in our opinion he fits in a new role of inspiration and role model for Arab youths.”

Dr. Homoud was born in 1963 in Irbid city, and completed his secondary school study at Irbid Secondary School. Since he was a child, he was known for his activities and his love to public, charitable and humanitarian work. He is a qualified dentist by profession. Part of what makes him an interesting character in his personality is how he does not seem to fit into any of the usual categories. He can’t be confined to the category of merely businessman and philanthropist as he personally takes part in humanitarian, social, political and miscellaneous activities revolving around humanity irrespective of the region, country or continent. Dr. Homoud can be seen across the world serving human beings despite having his hectic daily schedules as a business wizard, as a philanthropist, as a social worker and as a Goodwill Ambassador of IIMSAM. He is also known for his influential advocacy of human rights.

Dr. Homoud though genuinely humbled by this great honour, is truly proud to be counted among his countrymen as a person of influence and an important role model for others. Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Homoud said “I am honoured to get this award .This award is a call for more and sustainable action towards the united goals. We dream to make our world free of hunger and malnutrition and to this end; my all energies are diverted to”. While calling support for the cause Dr. Homoud said “it is high time to realize that we are not going to be declared as developed civilization until and unless we bring marginalised section of society to the mainstream and to this end, I plead for support from all corners of the society”.

Expressing his gratefulness for choosing him for this award Dr. Homoud reaffirmed his commitment to work for humanity, he added “I enjoy each fraction moment with all happiness from core of my heart when I see smile on face of even one child; I don’t know why it is but that smile is really a catalyst for me and it gives me more energy to work for them”. Reacting to the honour he said “I do not view it as recognition of my personal accomplishments but rather an affirmation of the work which we are doing for ultimate benefit of mankind. “This award is not simply about my work rather it is to be shared with everyone who strives for an egalitarian society”.

Dr. Homoud also urged for supporting IIMSAM in accomplishment of its mandates. He observed “I believe that promises in the Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and poverty by half by the year 2015 can only be redeemed by serious thinking, planning and action. Dr. Homoud further added “when we look the other side, there are impending challenges for the mankind. The global challenge of food shortage has to be kept in mind while formulating policies for countering the menace of global food crisis”. The nature of crisis asks for global and concerted efforts on the part of world bodies, governments and civil society groups to tackle it”. He stressed “hunger is about people and ending hunger is about policies”. Speaking further he added “we have to ask ourselves; have we made the right choices and are we doing enough to provide our children with a sustainable future? Because our actions and our failures to act have been shaping the future of life on earth for thousands of years, if not forever”.

Dr. Homoud further urged to the international community, especially the signatories of the 4th Geneva Convention, and human rights organizations to fulfill their responsibilities and urge all countries to respect articles of international law. Significantly, he urgently appealed to the international community to rescue and protect peoples who are deprived and victimized of gross violation of human rights.

Concluding the ceremony Yazan kawas said “we feel our selves privileged to honor Dr. Homoud with this award”. He added” Dr. Homoud has not sought recognition for his acts that have benefited thousands.  In his quiet but influential way, he has made a monumental impact on countless sufferers. An exemplary model of humanitarian ideals, Dr. Homoud is a deserving recipient of this award”.
