Be a tourist in your own town! Visit the 35th Annual Trenton Mid-Summer Festival, scheduled for July 9, 10 and 11. It is held in downtown Trenton on Jefferson between Maple and Harrison. There will be plenty of attractions to keep you entertained all weekend, making the festival a must addition to your stay-at-home travel itinerary.
In addition to the overall tourist event, this year’s festival is again “Going Green!” In an effort to showcase the many environmentally friendly opportunities that exist in our area, the festival com-mittee is encouraging participants to offer environmentally friendly information and family fun. Whether it be sharing the many outdoor recreation opportunities and wonderful natural resources that exist right in our own backyard or showcasing environmentally friendly businesses and organizations which are providing healthy alternatives to preserve and protect our environment, this year’s festival will have lots of great ideas of how to “Go Green” downriver.
Covert Shredding a Taylor based firm, is coordinating the recycle bin program this year. Owner Ron Covert said, “We are excited to be involved this year and will be providing additional recycling aspects to the festival.” This year they will use recycled “recycle bins”, they will also collect cardboard and paper and batteries. “We will have a booth so folks are encourage to stop by if they have recycling questions and we’re giving away sapling trees to the first 200 festival goers.” Be sure to recycle plastic, cans & bottles while you’re here compliments of the Trenton Business Association, Renewals By Anderson & DTE! There will also be a useful Garbage Art contest where artists can share a recycled item in art form. It will be on display throughout festival and will earn one contestant a $100 prize. The festival group also emails all correspondence and uses Facebook & Twitter to communicate rather than many printed publications.
The Festival attracts over 100,000 visitors each year with top name entertainment, over 150 artists and craftsmen, a children’s playmarket, and a popular array of sporting tournaments including co-ed volleyball. For more information visit the web site at http://www.trentonmid-
