A judge in New Zealand two years ago awarded a girl a ward of court so she could alter her name. He also rebuked the parents for giving her the name Talula, (original or abundant). Judge Rob Murfitt said that the name embarrassed the nine-year-old and could expose her to teasing.
Sweden has stringent naming laws. In 2007 authorities rejected the name Metallica - after the rock group. It had previously rejected Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 - pronounced Albin.

These names may have a special meaning to the parents, but it is the child who has to wear it.
In the tropical island of Vanuatu, in the South Pacific, parents have to gain the court’s permission before they are permitted to lumber their children with unusual names. Perhaps more countries should adopt the same policy.
