Skilled Home Health Care for the Patient…Economic Sense for the Health Care Industry

There’s no doubt that hospitals today are understaffed. The students in medical programs today do not even come close to meeting the demand and with more baby boomers entering the hospital and healthcare system, the problem has become critical.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr 08, 2010 -
Living longer and healthier while retaining our independence is the goal! Because of health insurance policies, and tight hospital staffing, hospital stays are shorter and shorter. For these reasons, medical care is shifting away from the hospital and toward skilled home health services.

Because of shorter hospital stays people are being discharged from the hospital with drains in their chests, wounds that need to be dressed, intravenous medications that need to be administered, and blood tests that need to be taken at regular intervals. What can we do about this problem? Rehab Matters Home Health nurses visit patients at home who need medical care that can only be provided by a skilled nurse outside the hospital setting. Both Medicare and private insurance companies provide for home health nursing care because it makes economic sense. It is far more expensive to keep a patient in the hospital than it is to discharge a patient to their home with home health care as needed.

Benefits to the patient have been proven that their recovery is quicker at home than in a hospital. Rehab Matters Home Health nurses provide patient care in the comfort of the patient's own home while providing dressing changes and wound evaluations, insulin injections for diabetics, blood tests ordered by a physician, and intravenous medications. Keeping a patient in the hospital for these services is not economical for the insurance companies or desirable for the patient. They also provide rehabilitation such as Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, with programs for both Low Vision and Dementia.

Rehab Matters Home Health nurses and rehabilitation therapists provide the interim care between hospitalization and full patient recovery. This is a win-win situation for patient care while keeping health care costs down.
