"Red, White and Blue" Musical Celebration
in Honor of Armed Forces Day

A Red, White and Blue Musical Celebration commemorating Armed Forces Day will be held on Sunday, May 16, 3 p.m. at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, 100 Grant Avenue, Deal Park. The program will feature conductor Carl Topilow, a multi-talented virtuoso and the founder of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, conducting a 30-piece orchestra. Audiences will be assured to enjoy Carl’s unique approach to the afternoon’s program which includes audience involvement and true showmanship.
Carl’s brother, Dr Art Topilow, will join his bother on piano. Dr. Arthur Topilow, is the Director of Hematology/ Medical Oncology at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Nepute, New Jersey, and is a well known jazz pianist performing with Bernadette Peters, Steve Lippia and Dick Hyman. The program will also include special performances by members of Pacific Encore Performances, a unique musical repertory companyfounded by local residents Barry Henry and Mary Weir.
The program will open with a ceremonial presentation of the American flag and a stirring rendition of the National Anthem. Carl will lead the orchestra through selections of patriotic movie favorites including Randy Edelman’s theme from the movie Gettysburg; “Midway March” from the World War II movie classic Midway; and the “Colonel Bogey March” from the Bridge Over the River Kwai. Art will play selections from “Porgy and Bess” and other Broadway favorites including “Shenandoah”
