A.C. Randini, Illusionist: The Dark Horse of Christian "Magic" Emerges from the Shadows

Houdini distinguished himself through his spectacular feats and amazing, death-defying escapes, so that over the years, his name and persona have been indelibly imprinted upon the public subconsious, defining him as the quintessential magician. In the world of Christian magic, a number of fantastic personalities have also arisen to distinguish themselves and to have their names remembered for years to come. A.C. Randini is not one of them.

The name, Randini, as many have pointed out, is not unique; it sounds very much like Houdini. Many magicians and illusionists over the years have attempted to capitalize on Houdini's success by creating stage names with similar pronunciation: instant name recognition. This is exactly why Randini chose this name.

"I want my name to be instantly associated with magic and illusion," says Randini. "But, I also want it to be quickly forgotten. Five years after I stop performing, no one is going to remember A.C. Randini as a great magician or illusionist. It's not me or my name I want remembered. It's the message that I have for the world that I want people to remember. The message is the good news about Jesus Christ, and his is the only name that matters."

So, who is A.C. Randini, and where does he come from?

Randini had dabbled in magic as a hobby since he was young, but never really considered entertaining more than a few people at a time. Several years ago, however, Randini began to realize that magic could be used as a very powerful way to not just entertain, but to communicate. So, along with his daughter, he began to work out a magical, entertaining and thought provoking presentation about what he believes is the most important message of all time: the good news about Jesus Christ.

But magic is not the only thing Randini does. He spends a lot of time with his family, is actively involved in his local church, and has a full time career outside of magic.

"There's much more to my life than magic and illusion." Randini says, "It seems to be taking a larger proportion of my time right now, and that's fine with me, but only if it's what God wants me to be doing. I just want to be really careful that I'm doing it for him and not for myself. I always tell people that it's about the message, not the magic, and I believe that's the way it should be."

Randini's real first name is Randy. Since 1990, he has served as a speaker and teacher at several local churches and has been actively involved in various Christian ministries, including youth retreats and camps, bible clubs, and nursing home visitation. With his family, Randy currently attends a church in Philadelphia, PA where he serves as the teen Sunday school teacher, occasionally shares in the congregational teaching/preaching ministry, and assists in children’s bible clubs.

In the "real world," Randy is a scientist and writer with over 15 years combined experience in the fields of science, medicine, and technology. He holds several degrees, including a Master of Arts in English, a Master of Science in molecular pharmacology, and a Bachelor of Science in biology. He also holds a Certificate in biblical studies, a Diploma in microprocessor technology, and a Graduate Certificate in professional writing. Randy is an experienced computer programmer, amateur screen and stage writer, and last but not least, illusionist.
