April 8, 2010 - PRLog -- W. Mark Dendy has too much copper, and he is trying to get rid of it!  Dendy, a marine biologist, professor, and Missionary Baptist preacher, just released his new book,  The Cascade Effect A Biologist Shares His Faith and His Story Living with Wilson's Disease (An Inherited Disorder of Copper Metabolism)  which details his life with this rare condition.
Dendy, now 55 years old was diagnosed at age 27 with the rare genetic condition, Wilson's disease, a disorder of copper metabolism that results in toxic copper buildups in the liver and the basal ganglia of the brain.  The toxic copper buildups resulted in a sudden onset of psychotic episodes and neurological tremors at age 27; the disease was unknown to Dendy who had been healthy the first two and one half decades of his life.  Doctors were puzzled until two neurologists at the National Institutes of Health suggested Wilson's disease - a disease that affects less than 1 in 30,000 people. The prognosis in 1982 did not look good due to severe neurological damage and stage IV cirrhosis of the liver; Dendy was given three years to live, ten tops! In this heart-warming, tear-jerking faith-building journey, through his life, Dendy recounts the numerous times he says angels have delivered him strengthening his faith and bringing him closer and closer to his Creator.
The book's foreword was written by Dr. Valentina Medici, an expert on copper metabolism and Wilson's disease, and the unique book cover which features a cascade of pennies was created by Dendy's oldest sister, JoAnne Rosenfeld, a Wisconsin artist.  Rosenfeld's cover art includes three pennies with significant dates, 1954 - the Dendy's birth year, 1982 - the year Dendy was diagnosed with Wilson's disease,  and 2010 - the year Dendy's story was published.
The Cascade Effect , released on March 25, 2010, is available at Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/Cascade-Effect-Biologist-inherited-..., Barnes & Noble.com, http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Cascade-Effect/W-Mar..., and many local bookstores.

$1.00 from the sale of each book will go directly to Wilson’s disease research.
