San Antonio, TX – The WellMed Charitable Foundation on Wednesday distributed more than $100,000 to 20 local charities designated by WellMed employees in their 2009 contribution campaign.
The Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is the philanthropic arm of WellMed Medical Management, South Texas’ largest physician-owned medical group, specializing in senior healthcare since 1990.
Donations distributed Wednesday come from the 2009 GIVE (Generous Individuals Value Everyone) campaign. WellMed employees designated the charities benefiting from their donations, which could be made through payroll deduction. WellMed then matched those donations dollar for dollar.
Employees also could opt to give directly to the WellMed Charitable Foundation, which will use the money to give to causes benefiting seniors and caregivers in our community emphasizing prevention, wellness and living with chronic illness.
“These are challenging economic times for everyone. They are especially hard on the charities we honor here today and on the neighbors in our community who rely on your programs and your support,” said Dr. George Rapier III, Chairman and CEO of WellMed. “That’s why I am so proud of WellMed and our employees for donating so generously to the annual GIVE contribution campaign.“
The 2010 GIVE campaign has raised nearly $150,000 from employee contributions so far this year, which WellMed will match for the 2011 GIVE distribution.
