April 7, 2010 - PRLog -- PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Abingdon at TraditionSM, an all-inclusive, luxury retirement community in Port St. Lucie, Fla., celebrated its final and largest grand opening on Wednesday, April 7 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with guest speakers and a luncheon with live music for attendees interested in touring the community’s variety of residential options.

More than 500 guests listened to speeches from Mayor Patricia Christensen, former Florida House Representative Gayle Harrell and Abingdon’s Executive Director Jonathan Collins. Former House Representative Dennis Baxley, Port St. Lucie mayoral candidate Frank Lillo and representatives from the Port St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce were also on hand to celebrate the opening.

For the first time since its ground-breaking ceremony, the retirement community located in the master-planned town of TraditionSM showcased all of its offerings - from freshly constructed cottages and villas to the multimillion dollar wellness center and The Retreat, which offers person-centered amenities for members who need assisted living or memory care.

Abingdon opened its doors to members in late December 2009, and many say their decision to move in was heavily influenced by the community’s focus on providing luxurious yet affordable accommodations which increase member independence and quality-of-life.

Collins says that’s a revolutionary concept in retirement living.

“We offer incredible amenities and affordable pricing,” Collins said.  “When you combine that with our commitment to member wellness and our desire to preserve independence instead of using our health care services as a one-size-fits-all approach, it’s hard to ignore the long-term benefits of moving to Abingdon.”

Mayor Christensen also complemented the community’s offerings and said Abingdon’s amenities provided a huge boost for Port St. Lucie seniors.  Other guest speakers include Robert “Spence” Spencer, a founding member of the community, Donald Thompson and Joe Weisenburger, speaking on behalf of Abingdon’s parent company and financial partner.
