New Computer Technology market report from Business Monitor International: "Poland Information Technology Report Q2 2010"

April 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Despite current economic headwinds, the size of the Polish IT market is projected to increase from US$7.5bn in 2008 to around US$13.1bn in 2013. However, IT spending growth dipped notably in H208, and the expected slowdown in the eurozone will likely mean slower growth in 2009 and 2010. Some IT vendors experienced reduced demand in H208 as consumers deferred purchases and companies cut expenditure. Sharp declines in domestic consumption are likely to depress economic activity in Poland in 2009. Real private consumption growth is expected to be negative in 2009, at -1.1%, and just 1% in 2010. However, despite the economic headwinds,  BMI still expects growth in many IT market segments over the next few years, particularly as EU funds support new IT initiatives A quick look at Poland's forecast growth trajectory reveals how quickly Poland could close the PC gap with Western Europe, as incomes - driven by the effects of EU membership - increase. Some EUR35bn should be available for public investment in ICT over the period up to 2013. The more difficult economic conditions could represent an opportunity to vendors, as companies in many sectors focus on applying IT to streamline business processes. Industry Developments Government IT spending grew in 2008, following a slowdown in preceding years that had made life hard for some IT vendors. New funding drove a series of tenders, with the information technology component to be worth nearly EUR1bn. According to Poland's National IT Infrastructure plan, some 75% of funds spent on government IT projects over the next five years is expected to come from the EU. The education system is a key focus area, and in 2008 the prime minister committed the government to a new programme of providing laptop computers to every student in the country. The prime minister said that the programme would start in 2009 with the distribution of laptops to an initial batch of senior schools, and then in 2010 would be expanded to junior secondary schools. The programme is estimated to have a cost of PLN500mn a year.
