The redevelopment of V.E. Macy Park, which is owned and operated by Westchester County, received a Gold Award. The project was a complete revitalization of the aging park, including redevelopment of two existing natural turf athletic fields and construction of two new natural fields based on a specially designed soil mix to eliminate drainage problems. Other features of the project include a porous pavement trail network throughout the park, electrical systems upgrades and infrastructure for future expansion, a new irrigation system, a new parking facility and improved traffic flow, extensive landscaping improvements, and numerous drainage improvements. Because the park sits in a floodplain, flood mitigation areas were constructed to reduce potential impacts to the park during flood events.
The redevelopment of Flint Park in the City of Larchmont received a Platinum Award. To address poorly draining athletic fields, lack of adequate seating and parking, and lack of space for active use in the park, Woodard & Curran designed and constructed a brand new, state-of-the art synthetic turf athletic field cluster and extensive subsurface stormwater detention systems to improve drainage on existing natural turf athletic fields. The project also included a network of trails and pathways to allow park users to access sensitive marshland with minimum disturbance to these areas, as well as numerous upgrades to seating areas and landscaping. All of this was done with careful attention to improving stormwater quality and minimizing environmental impacts.
