High-profile lawyer, feminist, activist and advocate to speak at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
April 6, 2010 – Lois Linden Nelson WOMAN'S WORLD is the premier fundraising event for Sisterhood of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, in Southfield, Michigan. Founded in 1964, this event is a well-loved, time-honored tradition in the Detroit Jewish community. Each year, over 700 women attend, including those who are leaders in the business and philanthropic community and who enjoy the experience of this all-day event.
The Lois Linden Nelson Woman’s World 2010 luncheon and fund-raising event will take place on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, 27375 Bell Road, Southfield, MI 48034.
This year’s keynote speaker is Gloria Allred, the internationally recognized attorney and advocate for justice and equality, described by Time Magazine as “one of the nation’s most effective advocates of family rights and feminist causes.” Allred has devoted her career to fighting for civil rights across boundaries of gender, race, age, sexual orientation, and social class.
Attendees can meet Gloria Allred in person and purchase a signed copy of her book Fight Back and Win: My Thirty-Year Fight Against Injustice--And How You Can Win Your Own Battles, after the luncheon.
The recipient of the annual sisterhood Woman of Valor award, presented during the luncheon, is Shirley Ruzumna, an honored member of the Shaarey Zedek sisterhood.
